3rd day of mid-term questions

1.What are Internet cookies? HTTP cookies, sometimes known as web cookies or just cookies, are parcels of text sent by a server to a web browser and then sent back unchanged by the browser each time it accesses that server.

2.What are packets? A packet consists of three elements: the first element the header, which marks the beginning of the packet and contains the source and destination IP Address; the second element is the payload, which contains the data to be carried inside the packet; the third element the trailer, which marks the end of the packet and conatins a checksum to find if the packet got corrupted during transmission.

3.What route do packets take over the Internet?Traceroute prints the route packets take across a TCP/IP. The names (or IP numbers if names are not available) of the machines which are routing packets from the machine traceroute is running on to the destination machine are printed, along with the time is took to receive a packet acknowledgement from that machine. This tool can be very helpfull in diagnosing networking problems. (from rpm description)

4.What is a 404 error on the web? The HTTP error message returned to the browser by the Web server when a requested Web page is not available.

5.What is 'e-commerce'?(Electronic-COMMERCE) Doing business online, typically via the Web.

6.What is the difference between ebay and craigslist?ebay is barreling its way into the lexicon of the new millennium and placing a cyber-grin on the corporate face of online auctioneer extraordinaire eBay, Craigslist (craigslist communities) is an online directory including classified ads and a community message board for specific urban areas.

7.What is SSL?(Secure Sockets Layer) The leading security protocol on the Internet. Developed by Netscape, SSL is widely used to do two things: to validate the identity of a Web site and to create an encrypted connection for sending credit card and other personal data.
